NEW COLT ANACONDA 2022 .44 Magnum
The new Anaconda largely resembles its predecessor but comes with a few noteworthy upgrades. Since Colt stopped making the revolver over three decades ago, manufacturing methods and metallurgy have advanced, allowing for the construction of the 2021 Anaconda using new materials and procedures.
At the moment, the new model is only offered in the powerful. 44 Magnum, which also permits the employment of less powerful weapons. 44 unique ammunition It has a shiny stainless steel finish and is available in two barrel lengths, 6 inches, and 8 inches. We chose the 6-inch model since I can point with it more easily and organically than the 8-inch model.

User-replaceable front sights, a stronger top strap that is drilled and tapped for installing a scope rail, and new adjustable rear sights are among the novelties included with Colt’s new breed of snake revolvers. Hogue rubber grips are also included with the Anaconda, which reduces recoil. Despite the addition of these features by Colt, the redesigned Anaconda maintains its original form, making holsters easily accessible. Additionally, since the grip contour is the same, aftermarket alternatives are also readily available from a variety of suppliers.

We had excellent first reactions to the new Anaconda. Outstanding fit and finish were present. For instance, the crane latches into the frame with a remarkably accurate and tight fit. Additionally, when the revolver locks in, it seems as though that section is composed of a single piece of steel rather of two. The fit couldn’t be better.
The single-action trigger pull is quite sharp and weighs about 5 pounds. The pull of the double-action trigger was also grit-free and smooth. The Hogue grip was quite comfortable in my hand and made it simple for me to control and operate the trigger, hammer, and cylinder lock.
At The Range with the NEW COLT ANACONDA 2022 .44 Magnum
We only used the new Anaconda for a functional test on our first trip to the range. We were curious about the new revolver’s single- and double-action capabilities. We took some of my own loads to the range because of the present ammo problem; they were fairly gentle rounds moving plated 240-grain bullets at 900 fps. It’s simple to handle and enjoyable to shoot that load. In both single-action and double-action, we put the new snake through its paces by shooting more than 100 rounds at a 10- to 15-yard MGM steel silhouette.

It was a thrill shooting off-hand at these distances—no pun intended. The Anaconda stacked the rounds perfectly on top of one another with these lighter loads. These “soft” loads are enjoyable to fire, yet they have enough oomph to knock the target over. To keep the target stand straight, I had to lay a big boulder on its base.
The serrated texture on the trigger face of the Anaconda is the one feature I dislike about it. A smooth trigger would feel and function better because it is too sharp.
Accuracy of the NEW COLT ANACONDA 2022 .44 Magnum
The accuracy exam is up next. We shot inside at around 20 yards, even though we know that this revolver can offer excellent accuracy at further distances owing to time and range restrictions. We utilized a machined aluminum, fully adjustable rest called a Ransom International Multi-Cal Steady Rest to create a very steady shooting platform. We used 240-grain Hydra-Shok JHP ammo from Federal Premium for this test. The ammo in question has a reported muzzle velocity of 1210 FPS and foot-pound energy of 780. There is no way that this is ammo for target practice.
We were only able to fire four 5-round groups because of the limited ammo availability. The group’s mean height was 1.85 inches. For me, that is a respectable outcome, and I am sure that with more effort, we will get even greater results. The Hogue grips are an excellent complement to this enormous serpent when firing full-house, that much we are positive of. 44 rounds of magnum. We’ve shot loads identical to these in revolvers with a variety of grips, and I found these Hogue grips to be both cozy to hold and really good at minimizing perceived recoil.
This revolver’s stock configuration may be altered in a variety of ways if you don’t like it. One thing we did was order a set of Pachmayr tiny presentation grips, which brought back fond memories of the late 1980s and the beginning of the 1990s. Although the Hogues are undoubtedly superior in most ways, we prefer the Pachmayrs out for emotional reasons because they were the grip style we used on the first Anaconda.

A scope foundation is another personalized touch that is advisable to add.
We can only conclude that the new Colt Anaconda is the greatest after all the shooting we performed with it. It was similar to the early 1990s when anacondas roamed freely around American shooting ranges. We thought the new model, with its contemporary features, was a significant advancement over the vintage from the 1990s. The new Colt Anaconda is unquestionably a strong option for these jobs and more, regardless of whether you’re a target shooter, hunter, recreational shooter, or simply searching for a self-defense pistol.
